The Sisters.  In my family there are many sets of sisters, including dogs!  I took the photos of the Rhododendron buds one day and decided to make a quilt celebrating the virtues of sisterhood, how we can be the same but different.  The finished quilt features two buds on the same bush, similar, but not the same.

Using applique techniques with fusible web, and my own hand dyed fabrics, I created the flowers and leaves separately and then stitched them. My hand dyed background fabric reminds me of the leafy background in the original photo.
I started quilting the three layers together on my Bernina 770. Then my new Bernina Q20 arrived and it was so much easier to complete the quilting with the much bigger space. As you can see in the photo, the backing is dark, and the quilt is almost two sided as I changed the bobbin thread when I changed the top thread.
It’s a bit washed out, but here’s a photo of the back of the quilt.
